County Extension to Offer New Cooking School

Learn Healthy Cooking Techniques in Four Hands On Sessions

Durham, NC – Mastering food preparation and cooking techniques is now possible with a few culinary exploration sessions offered by the Durham County Cooperative Extension Cook Smart, Eat Smart Cooking School. The Cook Smart, Eat Smart Cooking School teaches participants how to prepare simple, healthy and delicious food in just four weeks.  

 

According to Family and Consumer Sciences Agent Deborah McGiffin, the key to the class is its uncomplicated nature. “Cook Smart, Eat Smart keeps it simple,” she says. “It involves simple healthy preparation techniques, simple ingredients and simple equipment.” Each session contains several basic cooking techniques and other topics related to eating and preparing meals at home. Cook Smart, Eat Smart also provides financial tips to stretch the food dollar while still eating healthy.

 

The Cook Smart, Eat Smart School is the first course offering introduced to the public since the opening of the Extension’s new demonstration kitchen. Sessions will be offered from 5:30-8:30 p.m. on Thursday evenings from April 27 - May 18, 2017. The registration fee of $40.00 includes the ingredients for the dishes planned for eating and consumption during each session.
