Durham County Launches Enhanced Website
Durham, N.C. – Durham County Government is pleased to announce that it is launching a new website that will greatly improve the user’s experience. Following extensive research and field testing to determine what areas of the former site were most used and an examination of patterns of use, the project team determined what the community was most interested in and brought those items forward while improving access. Durham County’s last new web design took place in 2012 and was in concert with the County’s new brand launch. The County collaborated with Vision Internet as the website designer for the previous and new site.
County Manager Wendell M. Davis said, “Durham County’s redesigned website will provide a better user experience for our community. Since last year, the talented team tasked with this upgrade has now provided a tool that is both powerful and appealing to those seeking information about the numerous programs and services we provide.”
Once on the homepage, visitors will note the presence of larger impactful photos and the presence of a larger search box that is easy to use. With the County’s research based data on most often viewed search areas, visitors will note a section called “Common Searches” which puts forward eight areas that most users visit for information. The homepage will also include sections for “News,” “Meetings & Events” and more.
The site also makes better use of colors along with its updated design that provides dconc.gov with a fresh, modern look. Users will additionally notice the site is more readable, thanks to larger font size and better use of white space. The rendering of the mobile version of the site has been improved as well. In addition to the focus on the new look and feel of the site, the County has conducted multiple training sessions to department level webmasters providing advice on how to create clearer and concise web content.
The new site provides more two-way communication and allows visitors and residents to request services, pose questions and receive responses. Durham residents and visitors are encouraged to visit www.dconc.gov to navigate the new website.
