County Announces 2017 Thanksgiving Holiday Schedule
Durham, NC – Durham County Government will close most of its offices on Thursday, November 23 and Friday, November 24, 2017, in recognition of the Thanksgiving holiday. All county offices will reopen on Monday, November 27th, with normal hours of operation.
Additional holiday closing details for the county include:
Durham County Library
All locations of the Durham County Library will be closed on November 23 and November 24. Durham County Library will reopen on Saturday, November 25, with regular hours.

Durham County Convenience Centers
Durham County’s General Services Department will close its four solid waste and recycling convenience sites on Thursday, November 23 and Saturday, November 25 for the Thanksgiving holiday. Users of the County’s convenience sites are urged to adjust their disposal plans accordingly on these dates. Sites will operate on a regular schedule on Friday, November 24, from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Residents are reminded that leaving trash, garbage or recyclables outside the gates of the Convenience Centers is not permitted while sites are closed.
The four solid waste and recycling convenience sites are located at:
- Parkwood Site # 1 - Highway 55 & T.W. Alexander Drive
- Bahama Site # 2 - Quail Roost Road & Ball Road
- Redwood Site # 3 – Redwood Road & Electra Drive
- Rougemont Site #4 - Highway 501 North & Bill Poole Road
Used cooking oil from the holiday will be accepted at all four convenience sites.
County residents on Roadside Recycling Schedule A, North of the Eno, who would normally be collected on Thursday, November 23, will have their recycling collected on Wednesday, November 22.

Durham County Public Health
The Durham County Department of Public Health will follow the Durham County Government Thanksgiving holiday closing schedule.
For Public Health emergencies during the holiday closure, including communicable disease reporting, environmental health and suspected foodborne illnesses, please call 911 and ask for the Durham County Department of Public Health’s response team member on-call.

Durham County Social Services
The Durham County Department of Social Services (DSS) will follow the County’s holiday closing schedule for Thanksgiving 2017. During the holiday closing, residents should report child abuse and neglect or adult abuse and neglect, by calling 911 to reach an on-call social worker.
