Susan Tezai Named County’s Chief Financial Officer

Durham, NC Susan Tezai has been named the new chief financial officer (CFO) for Durham County Government, effective January 1, 2018. She will succeed George Quick who recently announced his retirement.

 

Tezai currently serves as the second in command for the Durham County Finance Department as the deputy chief financial officer. Tezai comes to the role of CFO with more than 30 years of experience, having worked 24 years with Durham County Government. During her tenure with Durham County Government, Tezai worked as a systems accountant, assistant finance director and sixteen and a half years in the deputy director/deputy chief financial officer role. Her work experience prior to Durham County Government includes serving as the finance director for seven years with the City of Roxboro.

 

County Manager Wendell Davis shared, “We are fortunate to have someone as talented as Susan within the organization to assume the role as chief financial officer. Susan is an invaluable team player with superb financial expertise and leadership skills. I am confident she will continue the tradition to ensure Durham County Government remains in good fiscal standing.”

 

When asked about her new role, Susan stated, “I look forward to serving this great County in my new role as CFO and am committed to working with County staff, management, the county manager and the commissioners for the continued fiscal strength, growth and prosperity for Durham County.”

 

Tezai earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, with minors in Mathematics and Business Administration from Elon University. She also completed the Public Executive Leadership Academy at the University of North Carolina School of Government. Tezai is a certified public accountant licensed by the States of North Carolina and Virginia. She is also an active member of the Government Finance Officers Association, North Carolina Government Finance Officers Association, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants.
