Durham, NC – Welcome Baby Resource Center, a leading Durham County Cooperative Extension Program in the field of positive parenting, early childhood development and child abuse prevention, received a $240,000 grant on December 5, 2017. The grant from The Duke Endowment, for the purpose of expanding the Incredible Years Program, will span a three year award period providing $80,000 a year to Welcome Baby.

The goal of the project is to expand Welcome Baby services, by offering workshops such as The Incredible Years Baby (1-11months), The Incredible Years Toddler (1-3years) and The Incredible Years for Children with Autism and Language delays. Money will be allocated to Welcome Baby Resource Center, which will pursue educating families on positive parenting techniques leading to school readiness skills and reduction in child abuse. The project will be headed by Welcome Baby Program Coordinator Patience Mukelabai . Outside consultants Prevent Child Abuse of North Carolina will be contracted for program evaluation services.

“We would like to thank The Duke Endowment for funding the expansion of services offered by Welcome Baby,” said Mukelabai. “These funds will allow Welcome Baby to continue serving Durham families and allow Welcome Baby to be part of setting a strong foundation in the first five years of a child’s life.”

For more information about this grant, contact Mukelabai at pmukelabai@dconc.gov or Cooperative Extension Director Morris White, III at mwhite@dconc.gov.
