The "In Touch with Durham County Government Show" provides governmental programming and access to your local government and provides timely, ongoing coverage of Durham County Government through the Government Access Television program.

"In Touch with Durham County," now airs daily on DTN (Durham Television Network)/ Cable Channel 97-5 and can be watched on demand at http://www.dconc.gov/index.aspx?page=60.

This new show replaces the former Durham County Government Show that viewers have enjoyed since 1991. Assistant County Manager Deborah Craig-Ray and Board of County Commissioners Chair Wendy Jacobs co-host the show.


The purpose of the show is to share relevant, timely information from Durham County community partner agencies, as well as provide interviews with elected officials, county department heads and key staff.

Show Details

On the May 2018 edition of In Touch with Durham County, co-hosts Senior Public Information Specialist Dawn Dudley and Board of County Commissioners Chair Wendy Jacobs will discuss the County's successful Drug Treatment Court, now operating for more than 20 years, as well as the Mental Health Court and other mental health resources in Durham.

In segment one, hosts welcome Judge Fred Battaglia and special guest Kenneth Helms to give insight on how the Drug Courts help break the cycle of addiction and promote law-abiding behaviors. Helms offers personal stories on his personal path.

In segment two, we will be joined by Mental Health Court Diversion Program Coordinator Renee Shaw and Behavioral Urgent Health Care Clinic Director Marissa Holsten. Each will offer up their expertise and how their services are helping citizens in Durham County.

Past Events on the "In Touch with Durham County Government Show"

On the April 2018 edition of In Touch with Durham County, co-hosts General Manager Deborah Craig-Ray and Board of County Commissioners Chair Wendy Jacobs will dedicate the entire show to the ongoing opioid crisis and what Durham County Government is doing to help the community.

In the first segment, we are joined by Dr. Steven Prakken, Chief of Medical Pain Service at Duke University talks about the recent Substance Abuse Forum hosted by Durham County and the issues facing communities in dealing with the epidemic.

In segment two, Dr. Arlene Sena, Durham County Public Health Medical Director, and Dr. Vera Reinstein, Clinical Pharmacist with Alliance Behavioral Healthcare discuss ongoing efforts in the County that are directly impacting the lives of those affected in the community.

On the March 2018 edition of In Touch with Durham County, the hosts discuss recent legislative changes impacting how the County’s Register of Deeds does business. Register of Deeds Sharon Davis and Assistant Register of Deeds J.T. Tabron are guests for the first segment.

In the second segment, we discuss how gap billing and collections of property taxes has become the responsibility of tax administration offices across North Carolina. County Tax Administrator Kim Simpson will discuss this change and others affecting the tax office. 

On the February 2017 In Touch with Durham County show, the hosts are joined by Durham County Commissioner Heidi Carter and Deputy Director of Engineering Peri Manns and Project Manager Brenda Hayes-Bright from Durham County Engineering.

Carter discusses her first-year experiences as a Durham County Commissioner, from the orientation process, surprises on the job, and plenty of other details of her days (and nights) as an elected official.

Manns and Hayes-Bright join in during the second segment of the show to talk about some major Durham County Building Projects, including the former courthouse, Main Library, and other updates on Durham County’s Capital projects.

Board of County Commissioner Meetings

The Durham Board of County Commissioners’ Regular Sessions are aired live at 7p.m. on second and fourth Mondays, unless otherwise scheduled, on DTV8, channel 97-5.  The meetings are rebroadcast on Thursdays at 2 p.m., Saturdays at 9 p.m. and Sundays at 9p.m.
