ARREST MADE IN HOME INVASION CASE
Durham, N.C., July 27, 2012—Sheriff’s investigators and members of the Sheriff’s Anti-Crime and Narcotics Unit yesterday arrested a man wanted in connection with a home invasion. Shane Matthew Montejano, 22, of 4505 Waterbury Rd in Raleigh, was arrested late Thursday night following a traffic stop made by deputies.
Montejano is a suspect in a home invasion that occurred at 14 Gloucester Ct in south Durham at 6:49 a.m. Wednesday. Sheriff’s deputies responded to the location after a 69-year-old man called 911 to report that he and his 23-year-old female roommate had been tied up after a man broke into the house and stole several items including firearms.
When deputies arrived at the location, they learned the man and his roommate were asleep when they awakened to find a man in the house. The suspect restrained both of the victims and began to ransack the house looking for valuables.
After the suspect left the home, the male victim was able to free himself and walk to a nearby gas station where he called 911 for assistance.
The case remains under investigation and more arrests are possible, according to sheriff’s investigators. All of the items stolen from the victim’s home, including the firearms, have been recovered.
“I would like to extend my thanks to Sgt. Jack Cates of the Durham Police Department,” Maj. Paul Martin of the Sheriff’s Office said. “He provided invaluable assistance during our investigation that helped lead to this arrest.”
Montejano is currently being held in the Durham County Jail under a $1 million bond.
Anyone with information about this crime in asked to call sheriff’s investigators at 919-560-0880 or 919-560-0940 to leave an anonymous tip.
