County to Recognize Good Friday Holiday

Durham, N.C. –Durham County Government will close most offices for the Good Friday holiday on Friday, March 29, 2013. All offices will reopen with normal hours of operation on Monday, April 1.

Durham Board of County Commissioners:
The Durham Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) will meet in work session on Monday, April 1, at 9 a.m., in the Commissioners’ Chambers, located on the second floor of 200 E. Main Street, Durham.

Durham County Convenience Centers:
The Durham County General Services Department will close all four of its solid waste and recycling convenience sites on Friday, March 29. Durham County residents with a current solid waste decal can resume disposal of garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulky items at the County’s convenience sites on Saturday, March 30, beginning at 7 a.m.

The Durham County roadside recycling schedule for customers on Schedule B, normally serviced the week of Monday, March 25, will maintain the same schedule. All residents are reminded to set out their recycling bins before 7 a.m., on the day of pick up, to avoid a missed collection.

Durham County Library:
All Durham County Library locations will be closed on Friday, March 29 through Sunday, March 31. All locations will reopen with regular hours on Monday, April 1.

Durham County Public Health:
The Durham County Department of Public Health will follow the Durham County Government Good Friday Day closing schedule.

For Public Health emergencies during the holiday closure, including communicable disease reporting, environmental health and suspected foodborne illnesses, please call 911 and ask for the Durham County Department of Public Health’s response team member on-call.

Durham County Social Services:
On Friday, March 29, the Durham County Department of Social Services (DSS) will close its offices. Residents are encouraged to call 911 to reach an on-call social worker to report child abuse and neglect or adult abuse and neglect. On Monday, April 1, DSS will reopen and operate according to its normal hours of operation.
