County to Close Non Essential Offices Due to Pending Weather Conditions

Post Date:09/12/2018

Durham, NC – Durham County Government is bracing for weather conditions related to Hurricane Florence. Although the projected track of the storm has shifted over the past 24 hours, there remains potentially significant implications for our community and surrounding areas. The County has decided to close non-essential offices to the public at 3 p.m. on Thursday, September 13, 2018. Offices will remain closed to the public on Friday, September 14th.

According to Durham County Manager Wendell M. Davis while non-essential County offices will be closed, the need to respond to Durham’s residents and visitors continues. The Durham Joint Information Center (JIC) has been activated to assist the public and media with weather-related inquires. The JIC, operated as a command post for coordinated communications between multiple City and County agencies, will remain open 24 hours a day until dismantled by the Emergency Operations Center. Residents are advised to avoid dialing 911 for non-emergency related inquires.

The JIC is available to answer weather-related questions impacting the Durham area and provide details regarding resources available to residents and visitors. To reach the JIC, call (919) 560-HELP. An additional resource for information related to emergency preparedness is AlertDurham.
