Facts:

    • On October 15, 2018, the County will host a special event celebrating the grand opening of the organization’s newest facility – the Durham County Administration II Building, located at 201 E. Main Street.
    • Board of County Commissioners Chair Wendy Jacobs will preside and speakers for the event will include County Manager Wendell Davis, Deputy Director of Engineering and Environmental Services Peri Manns and representatives from O’Brien Atkins Associates, Holt Brothers Construction and Whiting-Turner Contractors.
    • Following a formal program, event attendees will witness a ribbon-cutting ceremony and participate in tours of the renovated building.
    • The Administration II Building was previously the County Judicial Building housing court administration services for Durham. Five years ago, the building closed when the services relocated to a newly constructed courthouse at 501 S. Dillard Street.
    • Renovations to Administration II were completed in August 2018.Updates to the 168,000 square foot facility cost the County approximately $47.2 million.
    • As of September 21st this year, the renovation project enabled the centralization of more of the County’s offices in the Durham Government District of downtown. The building is now home to Durham County’s Economic Development Division, Emergency Medical Services Administration, General Services Security Operations/ Badging/Locksmith (General Services Headquarters remains at 310 South Dillard Street), Engineering and Environmental Services, Register of Deeds, Soil & Water Conservation District, and Tax Administration, North Carolina Forestry, , and the North Carolina Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction & Juvenile Justice.
    • Durham County is seeking vendors to occupy restaurant spaces located on the first floor of Administration Office II. Each space is approximately 3,100 square feet and includes an additional 1,100 square feet of outdoor dining space. A Request for Qualifications has been issued in search of well-qualified restaurant tenants to lease the available spaces. The RFP includes a detailed presentation of the restaurant concept, business operating plans, and financial projections that demonstrate a solid plan for success.

    • The Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting event is free and open to the public. Residents, visitors and media are invited to the event to view the facility striving for Silver LEED Certification.
