Anti-Crime and Narcotics Unit seizes drugs, guns in multiple cases

Durham, NC - This week, the Sheriff’s Office Anti-Crime and Narcotics investigators made arrests in three unrelated cases where convicted felons were manufacturing and/or selling drugs in Durham County. In two of these cases,felons were in possession of firearms when apprehended.

On theafternoon of February 13, investigators went to a home located on 1707 Gunter St. to execute a search warrant. When they made entry into the apartment in question an armedman identified as Bradley Monta Brooks, attempted to flee through a bedroom. He was apprehended before leaving the residence. As a result of the search investigators located:

.45 caliber handgun
30 crack rocks
11 plastic bags containing marijuana
1 oxycodone tablet
Digital scales
$100 US currency

Brooks, 35 of Durham is a convicted felon who served 17 years for murder. He is currently charged with:

Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Felon
PWISD Sch II Cocaine within 1000’ of a School
PWISD Sch VI Marijuana within 1000’ of a School
Maintain a Dwelling for CS
Simple Possession of Sch II
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia


On the morning of February 13th, SAC/Narc investigatorswith the assistance of the Durham probation office, Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division and Sheriff’s Office Intel unit, went to a home on 514 Van Allen Dr. looking for Matthew Weatherington, 32, of Durham.Wetherington was believed to be staying at that address and is wanted on several outstanding felony warrants.He was not in the home, however, while asearch was being conducted, a woman residing there was found to be in possession of:

75 grams of methamphetamine
4 grams of heroin
1.5 grams of cocaine
3 grams of marijuana
1 ecstasy pill
Digital scales and bags
$1000 US currency

48-year-old Angela Marie Logner, of the address above, has a criminal history dating back to 1991. She was arrested and charged with:

PWISD methamphetamine
Trafficking Methamphetamine
PWISD Schedule I (heroin)
PWISD Schedule II (cocaine)

A secondperson in the home,who was determinedto be wanted in another Stateon charges of identity theft, was also taken into custody. Matthew Wetherington is still at large.


On Thursday, February 14th, anti-crime and narcotics investigators arrested DavidAnthony Harris 45 of Durham, after a traffic stop for fictitious tags. Harris was found to be in possession of drugs andcash. Harrischarged with:

PWISD Sch II (cocaine)
Maintaining a Vehicle for CS
Simple Possession Sch VI Marijuana
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Before the traffic stop, Harrishad been observed coming from 4123 Casa St and a warrant was obtained to search that residence. Upon entering the home Bryant Lamont Jones, 39 of the address fled to a bathroom and began to flush drugs he had in his possession. Jones was also holdingan assault rifle with a fully loaded drum magazine.In the home investigators seized:

34 grams Cocaine
2 grams Heroin
7.62x39 Assault Rifle with drum fed magazine

Jones, aconvicted felon, was charged with:

PWISD Sch II Cocaine
PWISD Sch I Heroin
Maintaining a Dwelling for CS
Possession of Firearm by Felon

In the home with Bryant Jones was Sharde Latigue Peaks, 31 of Durham.Ms. Peaks has been charged with

Possession of Firearm by Felon
