County to Recognize Good Friday Holiday

Non-essential County Offices Closed on April 19th

Durham, N.C. – Durham County Government will close most offices in recognition of the Good Friday holiday on Friday, April 19, 2019. All offices will reopen with normal hours of operation on Monday, April 22nd .

Durham County General Services

Convenience Sites

The Durham County General Services Department will close all four of its solid waste and recycling convenience sites on April 19th. Durham County residents with a current 2018-2019 solid waste decal can resume disposal of garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulky items at the County’s convenience sites on Saturday, April 20th, beginning at 7 a.m.


Roadside Recycling Collection

The Durham County roadside recycling schedule for customers on Schedule B, normally serviced the week of April 15th will maintain the same schedule. All residents are reminded to set out their recycling bins before 7 a.m. on the day of pickup to avoid a missed collection.


Durham County Library

All Durham County Library locations will be closed on Friday, April 19th through Sunday, April 21st. All locations will reopen with regular hours of operation on Monday, April 22nd.

Durham County Public Health

The Durham County Department of Public Health (DCoPH) will follow the Durham County Government Good Friday holiday closing schedule and be closed on April 19th. For Public Health emergencies during the holiday closure, including communicable disease reporting, environmental health and suspected foodborne illnesses, please call 911 and ask for the Durham County Department of Public Health’s response team member on-call. Public Health offices will reopen with normal business hours on April 22nd.

Durham County Social Services

Durham County Department of Social Services (DSS) will close its offices on April 19th. While offices are closed for the holiday, residents should call 911 to report child and/or adult abuse and neglect. An on-call social worker will be notified. Durham County Sheriff

The Durham County Sheriff’s Administration and Records Division will be closed on April 19th and will reopen on April 22nd. The Sheriff’s Patrol Division, as always, is available 24/7.
