It is Medical Laboratory Professionals Week!
This week is Medical Laboratory Professionals Week! Please join us in celebrating the dedicated members of the laboratory and recognizing their contribution to Public Health.
Medical Laboratory Professionals Week originated in 1975 and is now in its 44th year. The goals of Lab Week include:
- Focusing on the Person – Medical laboratory science is of one of the largest industries in the US with over 300,000 practitioners of laboratory science. The efforts of lab professionals often go unnoticed by the general public since team members are not always directly involved in patient care.
- Increase Awareness of the Profession – Lab Week is an opportunity for lab professionals to share their field with others and provide education around the laboratory and its services.
The DCoDPH laboratory collects over 40,000 specimens every year and completes over 28,000 tests on-site! They offer 25 different tests ranging from manual to fully automated. They even perform high-complexity molecular-based testing rarely seen in Public Health settings.
