June is National Hunger Awareness Month and Durham DSS Will Do 2 Outreach Events

Durham, NC--- In recognition of Hunger Awareness Month, Durham County Department of Social Services will host two outreach projects this month to combat food insecurity. The first outreach date is, Wednesday, June 5th from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the Go Durham Bus Station, (formerly known as DATA), in downtown Durham, 515 W. Pettigrew Street.  Staff will be present to assist with filling out food and nutrition applications, as well as, assist residents with providing information on additional food resources.

Tuesday, June 26th, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., staff will be at the J.J. Henderson Towers along with community partners to educate and prevent food insecurity among our seniors residing there. DCo DSS is currently collecting non-perishable food items to give to the residents of J.J. Henderson Towers as part of their outreach efforts provided by the staff.

Individuals living in Durham, who have food insecurity issues can call 919-560-8000 to inquire about how they can apply for food and nutrition services.
