County to Host Two ‘Meet the Developer’ Events in November

Upcoming Sessions Offer Citizens the Opportunity to Learn About the Future of 300 and 500 Blocks of East Main Street

Durham County Government



Session #1: Saturday, November 2, 2019 at 10 a.m. Holton Career Resource Center, 401 N. Driver St.


Session #2: Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at 7 p.m. Durham County Human Services Building, 414 E. Main St.




  • Durham County Government is moving into the next phase of the redevelopment of two County-owned sites located at the 300 and 500 blocks of East Main Street.
  • On July 8, 2019, the Durham Board of County Commissioners selected Laurel Street and ZOM Living to execute on its vision for the two sites.
  • The proposed plan includes a mix of affordable and market-rate apartments, commercial space along East Main Street, and parking for tenants and County employees.
  • Citizens are invited to meet representatives from Laurel Street and ZOM Living to gain important information about the future of the 300 and 500 blocks of East Main Street.
  • The two “Meet the Developer” informational sessions will be held on Saturday, November 2 and Tuesday, November 12.
  • Durham County staff is currently in negotiations on a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the selected team and is expected to update the BOCC and public in the next three months. An MOU is a nonbinding agreement between the County and each development partner outlining each parties’ requirements and responsibilities, establishing milestones that must be reached before a development agreement can be executed. The MOU must be approved by the BOCC.
