Suspect in Drye's Gun Shop theft arrested in Virginia

Durham, NC (November 19, 2019) - Durham County Sheriff Clarence F. Birkhead announces that an arrest has been made in the ongoing investigation of a burglary at a local gun shop.On June 11th of this year, deputies responded to Drye's Gun Shop located on 1425 Bahama Rd. in Durham County after the owner reported a break-in to his business. Suspects entered the store, smashed display cases and took more than 2 dozen guns. The same suspects are believed to have returned to the location twice in the month of July but were unable to make entry into the building either time.

Charged in the initial break-in is Treyvon Brandon age 22 of Durham. He was taken into custody by the FBI in Campbell County, Virginia on unrelated charges on Thursday, November 14.Brandon, along with Aaron Ramsey, were previously charged in the attempted break-ins at Drye’s in July.Investigators are still seeking the location of a 3rd accomplice, 27-year-old Jamazia Scott, who has 12 open warrants for possession of a stolen gun.

"As I stated in August of this year, we will be relentless in the investigation and capture of those who individuals who participate in violent crimes,” said Sheriff Birkhead.“Putting stolen weapons on the streets of Durham and other communities makes everyone less safe. Myself and my deputies will continue to seek out those who would put our citizens at risk."

The Sheriff's Office would like to thank the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF)who in October offered a$5000 rewardfor information leading to the arrest and capture of those responsible for the burglary.
