Update: Durham, NC (April 2, 2020) - On Wednesday, April 1, 2020, detectives from the Durham County Sheriff's Office located a wanted suspect shown in previously released surveillance photos from smash and grab robberies across Durham and Orange Counties during the months of February and March. The subject was found in the vehicle shown in the attached photos. Charged in this case is Anthony McLean, 58, of Durham. McLean is a suspect in the following incidents:
2/21/2020 robbery of The Pantry located at 1204 US 70 E, Orange County
2/25/2020 robbery of the Breeze Thru located 2300 Old NC 86, Orange County
2/25/2020 robbery of the Family Dollar located at 1518 S Miami Blvd, Durham County
3/12/2020 robbery of the Circus Foods located at 3801 Wake Forest Highway, Durham County
Anthony McLean is charged as follows:
Orange County - specific charges
Second Degree Kidnapping
Common Law Robbery
2 counts Breaking and Entering
Larceny after Breaking and Entering
2 counts Damage to Property
Durham County - specific charges
2 counts Breaking/Entering
2 counts Larceny
2 Counts of Injury to Real Property
3 outstanding warrants for failure to appear on felony charges
McLean is currently being held in the Durham County Detention Center on a $61,000 bond. He made a first appearance this morning.
This investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending.
Durham, NC (March 12, 2020) - The Durham County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division (CID) is asking for the public's help in identifying the suspects in the accompanying photos.
The surveillance photos show the vehicle and persons involved in a series of smash and grab robberies that have taken place in Durham and Orange Counties over the last month.
In all of the incidents, the wanted suspects smashed a window at the closed businesses to gain entry and then took cigarettes, lottery tickets, and other items from the stores.
