County to Recognize 2020 Independence Day Holiday

Durham, NC - Durham County Government will observe the Independence Day holiday on Friday, July 3, 2020. On the day of observation, non-essential offices for the County will be closed. All County offices will reopen and resume normal hours of operation on Monday, July 6. 

 

Durham County General Services County Convenience Sites & Roadside Recycling Collection

The Durham County General Services Department will close its four Solid Waste and Recycling Convenience Sites on Saturday, July 4. Durham County residents with a current 2019-2020 solid waste decal can resume disposal of garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulky items on July 6 beginning at 7 a.m. 

The Durham County roadside recycling collection will not change due to the Independence Day holiday.

Durham County Department of Public Health

The Durham County Department of Public Health will continue all regular COVID-19 functions during the Independence Day holiday weekend. The COVID-19 hotline 919-560-8150 will be accessible from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Friday, July 3, but will be closed as normal on Saturday-Sunday. The remainder of DCoPH will follow the Durham County Government Independence Day holiday closing schedule.

For Public Health emergencies during the holiday closure, including communicable disease reporting, environmental health and suspected foodborne illnesses, call 911 and ask for the Durham County Department of Public Health’s response team member on-call.

Durham County Library

Durham County Library will close on July 3 and July 4 for the Independence Day holiday. Library Take-Out! service will resume on Tuesday, July 7. The Main Library, located in downtown Durham, remains closed.

Durham County Social Services

Durham County’s Department of Social Services (DSS) will follow the Durham County Government holiday closing schedule. DSS will close their offices in the Human Services Building on East Main Street on July 3. Offices will reopen with normal hours of operation on July 6, 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.    

While offices are closed for the holiday, residents should call 911 to report child and/or adult abuse and neglect. An on-call social worker will be notified. For more information about Durham County DSS visit www.dconc.gov/dss. 

 

Durham County Sheriff

The Durham County Sheriff’s Office patrol division is available 24/7. The Sheriff’s Administration and Records Division will be closed on July 3 and will reopen on July 6.
