DETECTIVES LOOK FOR NEW INFORMATION IN TEN-YEAR-OLD MURDER INVESTIGATION OF DURHAM MOTHER

Durham, NC (June 30, 2020) - On the morning of June 23, 2010,Wanda Spence was last seen near her Elmo Street home in the City of Durham.The next day, two of her five children arrived at her home and discovered their minor siblings were alone and that their mother was missing. When Ms. Spence did not return, she was reported as missing by her family on June 26, 2010. On June 30, 2010,discarded and badly decomposed remains were found by a road crew on Old Oxford Highway near International Drive in Durham County.The remains were positively identified during an autopsy as those Wanda Spence the next day. She was found to have died as a result of a homicide. The location of her murder has never been found.

When the incident first occurred, very little information was available about what happened to Ms. Spence. Efforts have been made over the last decade to find new evidence to discern what happened,but new leads have not been developed in recent years.Her killer and or killers are still at large,and investigators from the Sheriff's Office would like to identify whoever is responsible.
