S. 143-318.11(a)(6).

Commissioner meetings
The public is welcome to attend Board meetings. Residents may attend meetings in person, via Zoom, or watch live online and on DTN. There is no sign-up sheet or request form to attend meetings, however, it is important to note that there are limited seating options.
A low-capacity overflow seating area is provided in the lobby on the second floor of the Administration Building. Individuals seated in the lobby can view the meeting on screens.
While social distancing will be established with seat arrangements, in-person attendees are reminded of the benefits of masking while in indoor spaces populated by others. Residents who wish to observe meetings are encouraged to continue using the virtual option and watch live on the County’s website.

Joining Meetings Virtually
The information for joining the meeting virtually is as follows:

Residents may deliver comments on agenda items for the meeting in person or virtually.
In-Person Speaking Option
- Regular Sessions: All speakers must give their full name and address to give public comments and complete the Public Comments (Agenda Items only) form and submit it to the Clerk prior to the start of the meeting to speak before the Board. Public Comment forms are also provided at the meeting. Rules for Public Comment on Agenda Items can be found here.
- Work Sessions: All speakers must give their full name and address to give citizen comments and complete the Citizen Comments form and submit it to the Clerk prior to the start of the meeting to speak before the Board. Hybrid Speaking Option
- All speakers must submit their full name and address via email or telephone to the Clerk to the Board at clerk@dconc.gov or 919-560-0025. These submissions must be completed by 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 24th.
- All virtual participants will be muted upon entry to the meeting. If they are signed up to speak, they will be unmuted individually by the Clerk’s office when it is their turn to speak.

Access Meetings Live on Durham Television Network
The virtual option aligns with social distancing requirements which ensure the safety of citizens who wish to participate as well as Board members and Durham County Government staff. Citizens who wish to view the BOCC meeting can watch rebroadcasts on the Durham Television Network, which is available on AT&T U-verse channel 99, Spectrum channel 8, and Frontier Communications channel 70. The meeting will also be streamed live on the County’s website and on the County’s YouTube Channel.

Durham County Residents Mailed Tax Bills – The Durham County Tax Administration mailed out 2025 property tax bills to all real property owners on Tuesday, August 12, 2025. Current year bills are due by September 1, 2025, and may be paid without penalty through Monday, January 5, 2026. 500 East Main Street Parking Deck Opened Aug. 25 – Durham County’s 500 E. Main Street parking deck (physical address of 114 S. Elizabeth Street) is now open to the public as of today, Monday, August 25, 2025. Residents visiting the Human Services Building at 414 E. Main Street, will be allowed to utilize the deck – receiving parking validation inside the Departmental Lobby service areas. You must present your parking ticket for validation. Please note, if you do not receive validation, regular parking deck charges will apply. The deck has three entrances (Main, Dillard and Elizabeth streets available for use).

Protect Yourself from West Nile Virus – Mosquito activity is high this time of year, so it’s important to protect yourself from mosquito bites and illnesses carried by mosquitoes like West Nile virus. Prevent West Nile virus by avoiding mosquito bites, by applying EPA-registered insect repellent, wearing long clothing, using screens on doors and windows, and dumping standing water in objects like birdbaths and tires to prevent mosquitoes breeding near water. Durham Benefits Access Coalition – Board Chair Nida Allam and Mayor Leonardo Williams recently announced the formation of the Durham Benefits Access Coalition (DBAC), which includes members of non-profits, local government, Duke Health, UN Health and others. The intent is to increase Durham residents’ access to benefits such as WIC, SNAP, Medicaid, the Earned Income Tax Credit, and local government benefits. Welcome Baby’s 2nd Annual Socktember – Join Welcome Baby and help smash the goal of 4,000 pair of socks during the 2nd Annual Socktember Sock Drive during the month of September! Donate children’s socks – sizes newborn through children’s 9 – at 721 Foster Street. All donations will be shared with families during the weekly Giving Closet. Durham County to Observe Labor Day Holiday – Most Durham County Government offices will be closed for in observance of the Labor Day holiday on Monday, September 1, 2025. All offices will reopen with normal business hours on Tuesday, September 2. Please note that the Board of County Commissioners’ Work Session will be held at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 2, not the usual first Monday of the month. Briggs Avenue Community Garden Fall Festival & Plant Sale – The Durham County Cooperative Extension is holding its annual Briggs Avenue Community Garden Fall Festival and Plant Sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 13. Disaster Recovery Center Open Through Aug. 30 – If you were impacted by Tropical Depression Chantal, you can get in-person help at the Durham County Library North Regional Branch (221 Milton Rd.) through Saturday, Aug. 30 at 1 p.m. Apply for disaster aid and loans, connect with recovery agencies, and get information on resources available.
