Child Protective Services (CPS) - In Home Services
In-Home services are provided to families in their home after an assessment concluded that the children were abused or neglected, and are at risk of future harm without ongoing support.

Child Protective Services In-Home
- Focus on the safety of children while providing support to parents.
- Work in collaboration with parents and community partners to strengthen the family unit.
- Help families grow by building resilience.
Guardianship Assistance Program (GAP)
GAP was designed to support caretakers who receive guardianship through the courts after an active CPS In-Home case.
- Families are referred through the Child Protective Services process.
- Provides ongoing support to families through quarterly home visits, linking to needed services for children and assistance with educational needs.
Prevention Services
Prevention services social workers provide support and services for families to prevent and reduce child abuse and neglect in our community.
- Referrals are received through Durham Public Schools.
- Voluntary participation by families to help navigate the different systems within the community.
Community Initiatives
Community Initiatives is a partnership between DSS and The Triangle Non-profit and Volunteer Leadership Center to provide services to the Durham Community. All referrals for the programs are from social workers within DSS.
- Backpack for Kids - school supplies are donated to children in need.
- Thanksgiving Distribution - packaged meals and ready-to-eat meals are delivered to disadvantaged, disabled, elderly Durham citizens.
- Holiday Cheer - matches individuals and families in need during the holiday season with sponsors.
