Briggs Community Garden

Briggs Avenue Community Garden is a 45-acre forested lot located in East Durham, on S Briggs Avenue. Its purpose is to provide an urban garden for Durham families to affordably grow healthy food, learn about sustainable agriculture, conserve pollinators, build community, and increase food security. The Garden engages citizens of all ages providing free hands-on agriculture education, recreation, and fellowship in a low-stress, supportive environment. We seek to empower citizens with access to agriculture information and production.

Extension Master Gardener volunteers

Since 1979, North Carolina Extension Master Gardener℠ volunteers have been helping homeowners make environmentally sound decisions in their landscapes. Trained by North Carolina State University faculty and staff, Extension Master Gardeners provide research-based information about gardening and environmental stewardship to individuals and communities across the state. Volunteers work in many ways - from answering residents’ questions to working with community partners to support their gardening goals, Master Gardeners love to support new and experienced gardeners alike.

Extension Master Naturalist program

Join us to develop the knowledge and skills you’ll need to serve as a lead volunteer on tree planting and care activities across Durham. Tree Keeper volunteers work with the city of Durham and Keeper Durham Beautiful to lead small groups of volunteers, provide quality control, and teach others how to plant and care for trees.

Healthy soil is the foundation of successful gardening. Community members are invited to submit soils samples at free or reduced costs.

Tree Keepers

Tree Keepers are volunteers who have accumulated the knowledge and skills to assist and serve a leadership role in volunteer tree planting and tree care activities. Tree Keepers lead small groups of volunteers, provide quality control, and teach others how to plant and care for trees.
